Knowing that no human being on earth is perfect but that we are rather, works in progress, I feel like it’s fitting to share our experiences with each other, even in the midst of that progress.
A few months ago I had found myself in a serious funk. Eventually though, I had become exhausted being in such a state of negativity. I wanted my happiness back and decided to make my efforts more intentional towards changing my attitude and other factors, that I know were making making me so unhappy. As I continue on my own journey, I want to share with you some realities which I think we should all be reminded of.
1.PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING
Our happiness is so contingent on the outlook we hold about life. We can choose to either focus on all the negativity in and around us or be optimistic and look for all the positive factors or lessons to be learnt in each situation of our lives. I am not saying to be unrealistic but rather, grateful for what we have instead of downtrodden by what we think we are missing in life. In this way, we can maintain our happiness and be more thankful for the blessings we have.
2. GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD SOMETIMES!
Stop overthinking so much! Stop thinking about what other people would think, how they might react, how it may look. Does it bring you happiness and fulfillment? Sorry if this offends you but the reality is that people aren’t looking at or thinking about you as much as you may believe. They aren’t marking your every move. Overthinking can stem from either fear, insecurities or, both. Be strong and confident in yourself and learn to love yourself completely. Most of all, have faith in your God that He will provide.
3. MIND YOUR BUSINESS! COMPARISON CAN BE A REAL KILL JOY
While this can be helpful in some instances, it can truly be counter productive in others. Comparing yourself to others and their successes has to be the worst thing we can do for ourselves. Understanding however, that everyone has to embark on a journey, unique to them, is a step in the right direction. You are you; you are not everyone else, nor were you meant to be. Everyone has their time to shine! A loved one of mine reminded me of a great and wise truth – the only person you should be in competition with is the person you were yesterday. How have you progressed and how can you do better today?
4. WHY SO SERIOUS? DON’T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF
This may be contradicting the explanation I offered in the previous point but hear me out. We cannot be so hard on ourselves. It ties back into perspective – instead of thinking about all the things you have not accomplished yet, how about the many things that you have? By no means am I endorsing complacency, but in the same breath we have to remain positive and focused. Learn to love yourself, flaws and all, be appreciative of all life’s blessings and the fact that you are still here. Let go of all fears and insecurities. JUST BE HAPPY!
5. STOP WORRYING SO MUCH
We cannot control everything in our lives. Our path has already been set, so regardless of how much we try to control and alter things for the fulfillment of what we think we must be doing in life, if it wasn’t part of the plan, it would just be a futile battle. Relax! Remember that God is in control and His will for us is always greater than our own desires. Where ever you are in your life right now, whether you think you should be there or not, it is exactly where you have to be in order to sufficiently prepare you for the next door to open or the next phase of your life. Place your burdens onto God and worry not.
Each of these are a process and admittedly, I myself am still trying to master these in my personal life. However, it is important that we try each day. Our happiness is important and who doesn’t want to be happy? I hope my experiences and advice continue to inspire and motivate you. Good luck guys ❤
As always, to God’s blessings, prosperity, faith, happiness and love!
